I could not possibly think of a better way to end Mosaic Fest 2008 (for me anyway), than to end with Sondre Lerche and the Faces Down.

Broken Social Scene on Sunday was great, save for a weirdo who kept headbanging and doing the rock on sign at the most inappropriate moments. I would have called him a troll - but there was a point where he stood up to dance and he just fucking vibrated on the spot like he was having a seizure or something while blocking
my view. Asshole. In fact, his pants were so damn low that if he started jumping, I bet I would see his asshole.

I was disappointed that none of the Stars crew or Emily Haines came down. I kind of wanted Feist to come too, but she held a lower priority and didn't come anyway. What was surprising was that when it was announced she wasn't present, people
cheered. Wtf. Is this some sort of reverse mainstream reaction because she's gotten some mainstream coverage and I'm way too cool to ever like anything mainstream? Sure, I get a little annoyed when all people can say to me is 'I LOVE 1234!', but I still love her nonetheless -___- Go to hell you damn hipsters, in your tight striped shirts, converses, black skinny jeans, indie hair and indie glasses. In your trying to be 'unique' and 'alternative', you're following yet another damn cow herd -________________- (okay how the hell did posting about BSS become some rant against 'indies' and 'hipsters'?)

Andrew Whiteman of Apostles of Hustle was also there, to my pleasant surprise. Also because I never knew who was actually behind Apostles of Hustle (I'm a bad fan, right?). No Apostles of Hustle songs were played (I hoped there might be some sort of solo thing - but nothing of the sort happened), though Kevin Drew did attempt an impromptu version of 1234 which died halfway because he forgot the lyrics.

After the show Jia Hui and I wanted to look around and we soon found ourselves at the autograph area. The queue was absolutely crazy, it snaked all the way to the end till the queues collided with the merchandise booth way at the other end of the foyer. We hung around watching Kevin Drew pop up and high five people in the queue and took pictures of them signing autographs while some really drunk ang moh lady behind kept screaming incoherent shit every 30 seconds. She even drank from one of those stereotypical 'take a swig of whiskey' kind of metal flasks (the flat ones).

However as awesome as BSS was, múm was better. Listening to their songs at home, I never really noticed the drums or the bass -but live! Holy shit, the drummer was excellent :x Oh God, if I had a drum fetish it'd be aural orgasms. I was tired too, because the TOK session earlier had worn me out and I was brain dead. At some points I actually wanted to fall asleep (alas that is the fate of all ambiance music, no matter how discordant or experimental) but kept fighting it. I cannot actually convey why múm was better in my opinion (HAHAHA TOK) but it definitely was.

The encore at the end was wonderful too, they played Smell Memory which is my favorite múm song. I was kind of disappointed that they pre-recorded some bits as I wanted to see how they made the sound live (it sounded vaguely harp like). Autograph signing was also possible since Jia Hui and I were seated in the foyer seats near to the exits (right smack in the middle of the rows!) and it was not a full house like BSS. Most of the crowd that attended múm were also older looking, like 20-ish++, and therefore less likely to be fangirls/boys.

The queue for the autographs was also really slow and the band took it's time coming out of hiding. However when we reached them, they were really friendly and all 6 of them signed my ticket. The first one took the trouble to spell my name out and the first lady said I should listen to this dead French Composer who had a song with my name in it. The guy at the end (Oh God, I'm a horrible fan) was so bored he drew 'E's all over my ticket from the 'MEL***E' (I don't need this blog popping up on google easier than it already does). He drew a flower on Jia Hui's ticket with a dot in the middle. It actually reminded me of a fertilised female egg.

But Sondre! OH SONDRE. MIND BLOWINGLY GOOD. It wasn't even as sold out as I thought it'd be -with seating only till Circle 2. What a pity. Out seats were pretty good too, 3rd row seats from the front :D I loaned Nic my strange green Fujifilm camera, and fiddling with the ISO he managed to take pretty decent pics (keeping in mind it
is my shitty camera).

The songs I can remember off the top of my head are Airport Taxi Reception, Track You Down, John, Let Me Go, Tragic Mirror, She's Fantastic - not forgetting of course the house raising Phantom Punch and Two Way Monologue. He played some other stuff from Faces Down and Dan in the Real Life which I wasn't familiar with, but it was excellent anyway. Best bit came I suppose, when he asked us to stand up and dance towards the end. I was already tapping my poor feet to the beat (thank goodness I bought some strange ankle support today - I think I re-killed my right angle keeping the beat) and moving my head. Standing up and moving about was certainly enjoyable. Especially since I had some random Norwegians behind me who looked closer to my parent's age than mine, I was less self conscious. There was also some guy in front who had the same shirt I had, of a giraffe and a green dinosaur hugging - too bad I didn't wear the same shirt.

For the encore, Sondre came out without his shirt on, leaving his singlet on. For some reason when I saw that, I thought of Kurt Cobain. They were good sports about the encore too, playing 3 songs. If I'm not wrong, they actually played for almost 40 minutes extra (including the encore), since the performance was supposed to be 1 hour only, so hooray for Sondre Lerche and the faces down! His attempts at Mandarin and Malay were pretty cute too.

After the show, Jia Hui, Hui Ming, Nicholas and I ran into Cielo, Cheang Jin, Cao, Bobbie and Hadi at the autograph area. From standing around randomly, a queue suddenly formed around me but Jia Hui was a little in front so I went to her instead. Sandwiched between the two groups was this irate looking Filipino woman, so hey Cielo if you read this: PUTANG INA! KANTUTA NA! GAA MO KALAKI ANG TITI MO? (I love my maid, Felicidad, for teaching me that too :D) Anyway Cielo wanted to get her iPod signed (eh is it Bumblebee? Or Megatron?) and rename it to Sondre. The idea of getting Middlemarch II signed never even occured to me, so as we got closer to the actual signing, I borrowed Cielo's idea and got Middlemarch II signed too (so thank you Cielo for coming up with the idea and Nic for telling me to go ahead with it). At the signing however, Sondre looked really tired and tiny with the hood of his hoodie (eh this sounds weird) pulled up. His eyes however, were piercingly blue and beautiful. Shit, unfair - I could never produce a kid with such blue eyes ): He sounded looked really tired though, but was nice enough to thank me for saying that he put up a great show.

As I was trying to figure out a way to keep Middlemarch II temporarily while I got some sort of protector for her, I realised that Nic forgot to get Yifang's CD signed. So quickly grabbing the CD from him, I ran to the bit where Hadi was while saying 'Hadi Hadi Hadi!' over and over and poking him with the CD. After I handed him the CD, I noticed there were like 3 Malay guys who were next to me who started chanting 'Hadi Hadi Hadi!' over and over. For some really strange reason - I thought they were his friends initially, till I realised they were some random hipsters who were hanging around the autograph area.

Argh Phantom Punch and Two Way Monologue were so excellent live I don't think I ever want to listen to those songs again ): it might overwrite my memory or something.

Anyway, I get to actually use this comic from indexed now:

So thus ends Mosaic Fest 2008 for me. I'll be back next year if possible. PLEASE, METRIC, STARS and CARDIGANS, COME!

Shit it's 4:16am. I really ought to sleep, but how :x
